Faith: Let’s Talk About Discernment

One of the many blessings about Azusa Pacific University is the chapel requirement. Yes yes I know what you’re probably thinking … “Who would want to go to chapel three days a week?”

Three days a week … you wake up, roll out of bed and walk into a religiously centered, inspirational pep talk that sends you off ready to take on the day. In my opinion, it is one of the most transforming aspects of the school.

The video I have shared with you today is on Discernment. My personal favorite, Pastor Brenda Bertrand, invites us to look at Matthew 14:23 with fresh eyes. You’ll love her vibrant personality!

*To skip straight to the sermon go to [04:29].

Here are some of the notes I took during the sermon:

Have you ever been called to something and at first it’s smooth sailing, then all at once cue hail, wind, storms, trouble …

“Discernment is trusting the little you heard even when it doesn’t look the way you expected it to be.”

It’s not always going to be easy street.

Don’t let fear distort your view of God.

Jesus said, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid…”

“Fear always shows up when you are moving towards the thing God has called you to do.”

Discernment should play to your curiosities.

We are made to co-create with God and be the image of God in this world.

Take risks, “come”, step out and do not be afraid because God is big enough to catch you if you fall.

You do what you can do and let God do what God can do and that is the miraculous.

You are a gift to this world …

“Get your dreams out of your heart and get them into the world!”

Love God, yourself and one another! XoXo – Caitlin Lee
